The guidelines we follow suggest that year 6 children should be completing at least two and a half hours of homework a week. For our Year 6 children this will include:-
90 minutes a week reading, learning multiplication tables and spelling activities, plus
a minimum of 1 hour a week either on a long-term project (half termly) or a supporting topic.
Again we thank you in advance for encouraging your child to complete homework regularly and to a good standard. It is important to continue to listen and support your child with their reading and tables. You will have already received a letter outlining the changes to reading diaries, but can we ask that you tick and initial the table that shows the half-term overview and fill in any comments in the ‘home school reading record’ section.
In homework diaries, there is a place for you to sign once homework is completed.

What was it like for children in the Second World War?
Aims:
·To demonstrate factual knowledge and understanding of the impact of the Second World War on children in particular and society in general.
·To develop presentation skills and the ability to give constructive feedback.
Choose one of the activities to complete for homework by the 6th July. You will be asked to present your work to the class and give feedback to each presenter.
1) Research what items a child evacuee would take with them on their journey to a safer area. Make a case, with its contents and any other war time items they might take with them.
2) Research the type of war time music, including the theme of lyrics, which were used during World War 2. Compose and perform your own musical piece from the point of view of someone who was experiencing war time life.
3) Research and write a report about life for a World War 2 child evacuee. Your report can be in I.T form and include pictures/newspaper articles.
4) Research and design a front page of a newspaper, which is reporting on World War 2 events, including eye witness stories and reactions/ feelings.
5) Interview someone who lived and experienced life during World War 2. Use this interview and your own research to write a report about life during World War 2.
6) Research what World War 2 Anderson Shelters were like and what items were kept in one. Make a model of a war time bunker and write a brief report on what it might have been like to have needed to use a bunker during the war.
